Cumbria Alexander Training

The 3-year teacher training programme at Fellside offers:

Experienced Teachers: An opportunity to work with several teachers with at least 10 years teacher training experience plus assisting teachers and visiting teachers.

Individual Autonomy: Our teaching team comes from different training backgrounds. Furthermore they have developed their own unique approaches. Students are encouraged to find their own teaching style.

Personal Development: Our course acknowledges that the Alexander Technique has an emotional impact. The course includes an awareness of this and the teacher's professional responsibility in this regard.

Movement: An Experienced Alexander Teacher who is a qualified Dance and Movement teacher gives specialist movement tuition.

Voice: Regular vocal instruction is on the programme and supports all students in developing expertise in this area.

Starting Your Practice: Support is given in setting up a teaching practice. One to one work with "the public" both in and out of the school is supervised. We help those who are interested in doing introductory group work to acquire skills.

Anatomy: Living and experiential anatomy that leads directly into the Alexander teaching process is an integral part of the programme.

Building and Surroundings: The course is held in a building with diverse and large spaces which accommodate a broad timetable. Outside, there are panoramic views of surrounding Lakeland countryside. Kendal and South Lakes has one of the highest "quality of life" ratings in the country.

Active Student Community: The students enjoy the unique facilities that the centre and the locality have to offer and meet outside course hours for a variety of interests.

Post-Graduate Training: Teachers are welcome for post-graduate training where emphasis on how to teach the Technique is given.
